iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 Battery Recall FAQ
Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation of Japan pose a safety risk that may result in overheating under rare circumstances.
Apple is exchanging these batteries through the battery recall program at apple.com.

Q. How do I tell if my battery is one of the recalled batteries?
A. Please go to the above link. The specific serial number ranges are listed there. The range of serial numbers may expand, so we suggest checking back periodically.
Q. How long will it take to receive a replacement battery from Apple?
A. It may take up to 4 to 6 weeks for your replacement battery to arrive. Shipping time may vary due to availability of your battery model.
Q. I have one of the recalled batteries. Should I stop using it?
A. Apple urges you to stop using your battery, remove it from your system, and order a replacement battery immediately.
Q. Can I go to Tekserve or an Apple Store and have my battery exchanged under the recall?
A. We're sorry but the answer is no. For safety reasons these batteries must be exchanged through the online form. If you do not have access to the website, please call Apple at 800-275-2273 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., central time, seven days a week, for further assistance.
Q. I own an iBook G3; does this recall affect me?
A. It is possible. It is advisable for all iBook owners to check their batteries. If you purchased a new battery to replace one that no longer held a charge; you may have one of the affected batteries.
Q. I've never had any problems with my battery. Should I have it replaced?
A. Yes. In the interest of safety, all recalled batteries should be replaced. Please check your battery to see if it qualifies for the battery exchange program.
Q. I have more than one of the recalled batteries. Will Apple replace all my recalled batteries?
A. If your batteries have the designated serial numbers, Apple will provide you with replacement batteries, free of charge. You can order online up to three batteries to replace your current ones. If you have more than three batteries, please contact Apple at 800-275-2273 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., central time, seven days a week, for further assistance. Please have the serial number of your iBook or PowerBook and the serial numbers of your batteries ready to provide to the phone agent.
