Tekserve can upgrade most Apple computers with a SuperDrive while you wait or by the next business day. Bring your computer into Tekserve for a free estimate. Another option Tekserve offers are external SuperDrives that plug into your computer's FireWire or USB port. They can be less expensive than upgrading the computer, but will take up extra space on your desk.
What is a SuperDrive?
SuperDrive is Apple's term for an optical drive that can write CDs & DVDs as well as read them. For example you can watch a DVD movie and burn a DVD with a SuperDrive. Some Apple computers come with a combo drive that can play DVDs but can only burn CDs.
What kind of drive do I have in my Mac now?
To check what is installed in your Mac, go to Applications/Utilities/System Profiler. This utility will tell you everything you need to know about your computer. Select Disk Burning from the left bar. Most Apple computers will show "CD-Write: -R, -RW" in the middle of the right panel. That means you can burn CDs. If your computer HAS a SuperDrive, it will also show "DVD-Write: -R, -RW...." like the screen shot below. If you don't see "DVD-Write" that means you are eligible for a SuperDrive upgrade.

Why would I want a SuperDrive upgrade?
A SuperDrive will allow you to burn DVDs with 4.7GB+ data or DVD movies that you can watch in any DVD player. If you have to burn multiple CDs for large sets of files, a SuperDrive can save you time by fitting 6 or more CDs onto one DVD. If you have space on your desk, you can buy an external SuperDrive from Tekserve that plugs into your computer's FireWire or USB port, sometimes for less than the cost of upgrading the computer.
What is a Double-layer (DL) SuperDrive?
Double-layer (DL) DVDs hold twice the amount of data than normal DVDs. You can burn about 8.5GB of data on a double-layer DVD, compared to 4.7GB on a standard DVD. These DVDs are great for burning large amounts of data or creating long DVD video disks. However, the disks are usually more than twice as expensive as standard DVDs. All SuperDrive upgrades performed at Tekserve are double-layer SuperDrives.
