Preface to the 11th Edition

The first Tekserve Mac FAQ was published in 1998 with 25 pages on Floppy disk drive repairs, SCSI woes, Apple bombs and more. Over the last 11 years, the technology has changed but most of our advice hasn’t. We’re still teaching customers how to back up their computers, what to do if liquid is spilled on their laptops, and tips for keeping their Macs trouble-free. Although these are timeless lessons of computer ownership, we’ll be the first to admit that computers have gotten a lot more complicated since we started.

As we’ve expanded to serve thousands of customers each week who use their Macs for almost everything under the sun, our advice for Mac users has grown tremendously. With 200 employees, we have specialists in every field from Pro Tools to iPod accessories, and a huge knowledge base. In 1998, our 128kbps ISDN connection was something to brag about. Today, the Internet has become the first resource we turn to when something goes wrong with our gadgets.

Originally a printed booklet that we’ve distributed to our customers since 1998, we’ve brought the 9th edition of our Tekserve Mac FAQ online. Now in an easy to search and browse format for the first time, we hope you’ll find the answers to all your frequently asked questions here.
