What's my Mac's serial number?

If your Mac is working, you can find your serial number in the About This Mac window. (Mac OS X 10.1 or later.)

  1. Go to the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your screen and select About This Mac
  2. Click the version text (under Mac OS X) twice. The area you need to click in circled in red below.
  3. Your serial number will be shown where the version text was (after two clicks).

The physical location of your serial number is different depending on which Mac you own. In general, portable Macs (MacBook Pro, PowerBook, iBook) have their serial number under the battery. Read Apple's support article HT1349 for the location of your serial number on any Apple product.
